INTRODUCTION
Calcium nitrite is an inorganic compound with the appearance of colourless to slightly yellow crystalline powder, or white or light yellow hexagonal crystals, with purity greater than 90%, with large solubility, soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol, and deliquescent. It is mainly produced by the reaction between sodium nitrite and milk of lime or the reaction between sodium nitrite and calcium nitrate solution.
Calcium nitrite has important applications in several fields. In concrete work, it is mainly used as a cement hardening accelerator and a frost and rust inhibitor. Adding calcium nitrite to concrete can avoid chemical corrosion of steel reinforcement, extend the service life of bridges and increase their compressive strength. In addition, calcium nitrite can reduce the freezing point of mortar and concrete, and has the effect of early strength. Calcium nitrite also plays a key role in industries such as pharmaceuticals, dyes and metallurgy.
